How can we help?

Common issues and fixes for Fieldnote tools. If you don't find what you need here, we're easy to reach.

Data & privacy

Storage, backups & devices

My entries disappeared

Fieldnote stores everything in your browser's local storage — it never leaves your device. Entries can disappear if your browser clears site data (this sometimes happens after a privacy clean-up, or if you use private/incognito mode). To avoid losing data, use the Export button in Settings to save a backup file regularly. If you've lost entries and have a backup, you can restore it from the same Settings panel.

My data isn't showing on another device or browser

Each browser on each device has its own isolated local storage — entries logged in Chrome on your laptop won't appear in Safari on your phone. This is by design: your health data never touches a server. To move data between devices, export a backup on the source device and import it on the destination device via Settings → Data → Restore.

How do I back up my data?

Open the app, go to Settings → Data, and tap Export. This downloads a JSON file to your device. Keep it somewhere safe (iCloud, Google Drive, email to yourself). To restore, use Settings → Data → Restore and select the file. More detail in the FAQ.

FODMAP Tracker

Common issues

An ingredient shows the wrong FODMAP level

FODMAP levels are based on the Monash University database and standard serving sizes. If something looks off — especially for a less common ingredient — please let us know and we'll review it. Include the ingredient name and the level you expected. We update the database regularly.

The parser didn't recognise a food I typed

The ingredient parser covers hundreds of foods but won't catch everything. If your food isn't detected, try a simpler name (e.g. "oats" instead of "overnight oat bowl"), or tap Add manually to search and add it directly. You can also save custom ingredients with your own FODMAP rating — they're stored locally and will appear in future searches.

Hydration quick-buttons or sections aren't showing

Try a hard refresh: Cmd + Shift + R on Mac or Ctrl + Shift + R on Windows. If that doesn't help, clear the app's cache via Settings → Data → Clear cache (this won't delete your entries). Still broken? Send us a note with your browser and OS.

Menopause Companion

Common issues

PDF export isn't working

PDF export uses the browser's built-in print engine. It works best in Chrome or Edge — if you're on Safari, try opening the app in Chrome and exporting from there. On mobile, the export saves a print-ready view; use your browser's Share → Print option to save as PDF.

Graphs or history aren't showing

History and graphs require at least a few days of logged entries to render. If you've been logging but the graph is blank, try a hard refresh (Cmd + Shift + R / Ctrl + Shift + R). If entries are missing entirely, check the Data section in Settings to confirm your storage hasn't been cleared.

Purchase & download

Orders, links & files

My download link has expired

Gumroad and Etsy download links expire after a set number of uses or days. Email us at hello@fieldnote.health with your order number (or the email address you purchased with) and we'll send a fresh link straight away.

I can't open the file after downloading

The download is a .zip file. Extract it first (double-click on Mac; right-click → Extract All on Windows), then open the index.html file inside in any modern browser. No installation required — it runs entirely in the browser. If you see a blank screen, make sure you're opening the extracted file, not the zip itself.

I bought the wrong version / want a refund

Contact us within 14 days of purchase. We'll sort it out — no questions asked.
