The short version
Your health data never reaches us. Everything you log in a Fieldnote product stays on your device. We have no access to it, no copy of it, and no way to recover it.
On the fieldnote.health website we collect limited, anonymous analytics — page views and referrers — to understand how people find and use the site. No personal data. No tracking across sessions. No advertising.
1. Data you enter into Fieldnote products
Fieldnote products (FODMAP by Fieldnote, Menopause by Fieldnote, and any future apps) are native iOS apps distributed through the Apple App Store. They store all data exclusively on your device.
We do not collect, transmit, store, or have access to any data you enter into these apps. This includes symptom logs, food entries, check-ins, notes, medications, or any other health information. The apps make no network requests.
When you export a backup file, that file is created and saved locally on your device. It does not pass through our servers.
If you delete the app or lose your device without a backup, your data cannot be recovered. We recommend exporting a backup regularly.
2. Apple Health (FODMAP by Fieldnote)
FODMAP by Fieldnote can integrate with Apple Health, with your permission. If you grant access, the app can read sleep and cycle data on your device to help surface correlations with your symptoms, and it can write the meals you log to Apple Health.
This all happens on your device. Any Apple Health data the app reads or writes stays on your iPhone, is never sent to a server, and is never shared with us. You can grant or revoke Health access at any time in the iOS Settings app under Privacy & Security → Health.
3. Analytics on fieldnote.health
The fieldnote.health marketing website uses two analytics services — Umami Analytics and Google Analytics (GA4) — to collect anonymous usage data. Both are only activated if you accept cookies when prompted.
What these services collect:
- Pages visited
- Referrer (where you came from)
- Browser type and operating system (aggregated)
- Country (derived from IP address, not stored)
Umami does not use persistent cookies, does not track individuals across sessions or sites, and does not store IP addresses. Google Analytics uses cookies (see Section 5) to distinguish sessions and may process data on Google's servers under Google's privacy policy. We have IP anonymization enabled and do not use GA for advertising or cross-site tracking.
If you decline analytics when prompted, or if you have not yet been prompted, no analytics scripts are loaded and no data is collected.
4. Contact form
When you send a message via the contact form, we collect your name, email address, and message content. This information is used solely to respond to your enquiry. We do not add you to any mailing list or share your details with third parties.
Contact form submissions are processed via Resend, a transactional email provider. Messages are stored in their system only as long as necessary to deliver them.
5. Cookies
We do not set any cookies by default. If you accept analytics, Umami may set a lightweight, session-scoped cookie to avoid double-counting page views, and Google Analytics may set cookies (such as _ga and _gid) to distinguish sessions. These cookies contain no personal information and are not used for advertising.
Your cookie preference is stored in your browser's local storage under the key fieldnote_analytics_consent. You can change your preference at any time by clearing your browser's local storage or contacting us.
6. Third-party services
fieldnote.health uses the following third-party services:
- Vercel — website hosting. Vercel may log standard server access logs (IP address, request path, timestamp) for security and operational purposes. These are not shared with us.
- Umami Analytics — anonymous analytics (only if consent given).
- Google Analytics (GA4) — anonymous analytics (only if consent given).
- Resend — contact form email delivery.
The Fieldnote apps themselves make no network requests and use no third-party services. They are distributed through the Apple App Store; any download or in-app purchase is handled by Apple under Apple’s own privacy terms.
7. Children
Fieldnote apps are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from children.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the date at the top of this page when changes are made. Significant changes will be noted clearly.
